Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edward McManis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Uthred Ragnarson! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McManis fails to land the takedown. We've been hearing reports that McManis has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. McManis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ragnarson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Ragnarson has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. McManis gets in close and instigates a clinch. McManis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. McManis fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ragnarson misses with a combination
and McManis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Ragnarson. Ragnarson throws a right and a left that McManis avoids nicely. McManis appears to be looking for a big counter. Ragnarson cracks McManis with a right hand to the side of the head. Nice takedown defense from Ragnarson. No joy for McManis on that attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edward McManis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ragnarson fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches McManis on the side of the head. The fight moves into the clinch position. McManis pulls guard. McManis tries to land a sweep but no joy. McManis is pulling down on Ragnarson's head. It's preventing any offense from Ragnarson, at least for the moment. McManis is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. McManis wants a takedown but no success here.
McManis has Ragnarson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ragnarson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. McManis is breathing heavily. Ragnarson is looking for a takedown. Ragnarson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McManis is defending well for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McManis lands with a short punch from the clinch.
McManis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ragnarson prevents it.
Ragnarson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McManis smiles and moves away.
Ragnarson lands a slapping body shot.
McManis avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ragnarson works McManis's body with a nice hook. McManis has a takedown stuffed. Ragnarson tries to counter with a clinch but McManis shakes him off and moves away. McManis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ragnarson avoids it really well and circles away. Despite the aggression on Ragnarson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Ragnarson.
McManis takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Ragnarson scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Ragnarson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. McManis eats them both and turns towards Ragnarson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. McManis takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Ragnarson scores with a three punch combo!
Ragnarson throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh McManis colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Ragnarson as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and McManis is left battered and dazed whilst Ragnarson and his camp cheer!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Uthred Ragnarson! In defeat, Edward McManis stepped up to the mic, saying 'You all seem it !it was a eye poke! I just could not see BUT ILL BE BACK'.
