Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Noah Sauvageau! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Ground! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sauvageau throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Sauvageau misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ground.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sauvageau. Ground does a little dance to reset his feet. Ground tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sauvageau swivels and escapes. A lazy left from Sauvageau finds it's target. Ground takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Sauvageau misses with a looping left. Nice jab there from Sauvageau. Ground gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Sauvageau just misses with a punch to the body.
Sauvageau scores with a jab to the jaw. Sauvageau dodges the punch combination from Ground.
This has been an exciting period of action! Sauvageau connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ground. Ground circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Sauvageau avoids the body shot from Ground.
Sauvageau swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Sauvageau throws a shot to the body.
Sauvageau scores with a jab to the head.
Ground tries to move into range but Sauvageau moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sauvageau misses with a hook. It seemed like Ground was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Sauvageau connects with a nice looking jab.
Ground darts in looking for a takedown but Sauvageau gets double underhooks and turns Ground into the cage. Sauvageau scores with a nice strike. Ground slips a jab from Sauvageau. Sauvageau takes a swing at Ground's ribcage but misses. Sauvageau fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ground on the side of the head. Sauvageau feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Ground sprawling to the canvas! Ground rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Sauvageau finish him?!
Ground is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sauvageau circles away before darting back in with a big straight right hand. It connects beautifully and sends Ground tumbling to the canvas! He's out cold! Sauvageau wins by KO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Noah Sauvageau! Noah Sauvageau retains his lightweight title! Our winner, Noah Sauvageau, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. In defeat, Mark Ground stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'll be back stronger!'.
