PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Borhan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvin Mays (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Borhan Khan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elvin Mays!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan moves away from the strike by Mays.
Mays missing with a left hand there. Khan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Mays fails with an attempt to clinch.
Khan attempts a counter takedown but Mays avoids it well and moves away.

Khan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mays's guard.
Mays keeping full guard, as Khan tries to pass.
Khan throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mays trying to control the position here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mays can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khan tries to free his leg and advance position but Mays is retaining full guard.

Khan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mays is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mays has escaped and now he's on top!


Khan working for a triangle but Mays defends it easily.

Mays postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Khan is trying to control the position but Mays postures up.

Khan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Khan trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Khan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mays pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Khan is keeping the position for now.

Khan is trying to control the position but Mays postures up.
Khan looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Khan lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Khan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mays swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Khan advances to half guard.
Mays wants to improve his position but Khan is controlling well.
Khan is looking to take a break and control but Mays is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Khan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mays doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Khan.
Khan passes to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mays is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Khan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Khan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mays's head.
Mays is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Mays manages to get to full guard.
Mays is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mays's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Khan trying to control but Mays is working from the bottom.
Khan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mays really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Khan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mays prevents Khan from improving position.
Mays tries to buck Khan off but Khan is having none of it.

Khan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mays has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Khan but great work by Mays.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Khan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mays has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Khan is looking for a sweep.
Mays is putting a hurting on Khan here, landing some big shots from side control.
Mays scores with punches from side control.
You can see the frustration on Khan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Borhan Khan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Khan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Khan dives in for a single leg takedown but Mays sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Khan shoots in looking for a takedown but Mays manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Khan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mays has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Khan is landing a low percentage of strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Borhan Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mays connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Khan momentarily.
A slow jab from Mays misses its intended target.
Khan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mays let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Khan closes the distance and clinches up with Mays, looking for a takedown. Khan pushes Mays against the cage but Mays circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mays misses with a straight right.
Mays throws the left hand but Khan avoids the punch easily.
Khan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Khan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mays's waist but Mays gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Khan off to one side.
Mays now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Mays looks to throw the jab but Khan is out of range.

Khan darts in looking for a takedown but Mays gets double underhooks and turns Khan into the cage.

Mays gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Mays lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Khan tries for a takedown but Mays manages to get underhooks.

Mays is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Khan can't fight it off and eventually Mays manages to take the fight to the floor. Khan looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mays trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mays cracks Khan with a solid left hand.
Mays is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Mays with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Mays distracts Khan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.


Khan is rocked!

Khan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mays is aware though and is defending well.
Oh Khan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mays slips nicely into half guard.
Khan seems to have got his legs back now.
Mays seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mays passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Khan!
Mays looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Khan covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Elvin Mays!
