PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Mackenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mackenzie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Darude - Sandstorm. Green comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Battle Royal kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

A countering left hand to the body from Green misses. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Green has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Green connects with a nice short shot to Mackenzie's temple.
Mackenzie is rocked! Green seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Oh Mackenzie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Green is nestled in close to Mackenzie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Green lands a big elbow - Mackenzie is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Green!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ron Green! Ron Green is the new middleweight champion! Ron Green really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Voodoo Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
