Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vance Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Sai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Sai has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vance Bird! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Sai! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sai tries to keep at a distance but Bird has taken the fight into the clinch. Bird fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Knees to the body from Sai.
Bird misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Bird swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Sai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bird misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Bird drives through with a takedown into Sai's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bird stands up from Sai's guard - Bird perhaps looking for a knockout. Sai shoots in and gets a takedown into Bird's guard. Sai must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bird is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bird decides to return to a standing position. Sai tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bird manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Bird attempts a counter takedown but Sai avoids it well and moves away. Sai throws a right and a left that Bird avoids nicely. Sai moves into the clinch. Bird could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Bird doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sai as Bird tries to tie him up. Bird wants to break the clinch but can't.
A bit of stalling here from Sai.
Bird jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sai walks away with a smile on his face. Bird gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Sai closes the distance and clinches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sai breaks the clinch.
Joe Sai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sai shoots in and bounces Bird off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Bird trying to control the position.
Bird controlling the position. Bird wants to sweep here but Sai controlling him for the moment. Bird has his feet on Sai's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bird tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sai paws at him with a jab and circles away. Sai moves into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bird is trying to break the clinch but Sai has him pressed against the cage. Sai pulls Bird into guard.
Sai thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Bird stands up and waves to Sai to follow him. A momentary lapse in concentration from Bird enables Sai to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bird manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Sai looks winded! Bird looking to control.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Bird manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Bird decides to pull guard. Bird had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sai defends it easily. Sai would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bird not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bird bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sai's guard.
Bird stands up from guard. Let's bang! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bird shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Bird with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Sai is not content to let Bird control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Vance Bird will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Sai closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bird's guard. Bird looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bird has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sai has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Bird decides to pull guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bird is on top in guard.
Bird gets to his feet. Sai looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Sai shoots in and bounces Bird off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. This has been an exciting period of action! Bird trying to keep a closed guard but Sai is proving a slippery customer.

Sai says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Sai trying to control from the bottom.
Well, if Bird is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Bird wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sai keeps working. Sai is looking for a sweep. Bird is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bird decides to stand and escape the position. Bird shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sai defends it nicely. A momentary lapse in concentration from Bird enables Sai to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bird manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Bird has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Sai off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Bird tries to keep at a distance but Sai has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bird tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sai swats him away and circles back towards the center. Sai bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Bird manages to get back to half guard. Bird moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Sai got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bird has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sai has managed to get both his arms back between Bird's legs - danger averted. Sai would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Vance Bird will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Bird doesn't manage to clinch there - Sai circles away.
Sai scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bird is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sai's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sai's back! Bird really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Sai. Sai takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bird controlling the position well here. Sai rolled but Bird kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Vance Bird overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Bird's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Further stalling from Bird. Sai is in bad spot here.

Sai is trying to get back to his feet but Bird has full control of the position and if anything, Sai has just worked his way into a worse spot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. I would not like to be Sai right now.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Bird is stinking the place up with his stalling. Bird seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sai for as long as he can get away with. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Bird has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that's the end of the fight! Vance Bird showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bird, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
