Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alan Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giovanni Marella (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marella has chosen "La Vittoria è Mia (Victory Is Mine)" by Jim Johnston as his entrance music. 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Giovanni Marella! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simmons scores with a one two! Marella had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Simmons fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Alan Simmons seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Marella takes the fight into the clinch. Marella turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Marella manages to end up in side control. Marella should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Simmons seems a little lost for a moment, as Marella dominates the positioning. Marella scoring with punches and elbows. Marella working the ground and pound from side control. You can see the frustration on Simmons's face as Marella controls the position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Simmons is trying to get back to half guard. Marella has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Marella is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Simmons's shoulder. That is not cool.

Simmons wants to control but Marella is having none of it.

He's simply no match for Marella on the ground. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Marella tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Marella looking to isolate an arm here. Simmons doesn't see it coming and as Marella extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Marella!
