PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ronald Rousey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Strikes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rousey comes to the cage accompanied by Creepy Jackalope Eye by Supersuckers. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Ronald Rousey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 35 - 1, fighting out of London, Carlos Strikes!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Colin Fotheringham and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rousey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Strikes's guard.
Rousey stands and throws Strikes's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Rousey is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Strikes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Strikes is looking for a sweep.

Rousey swings around for an armbar but Strikes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rousey's guard.
Rousey seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Strikes trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rousey's guard.
Strikes preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rousey had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Strikes defends it easily.
Rousey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Strikes is one step ahead there.

Rousey pulls Strikes in to control the position.
Strikes trying to control the position from guard on top but Rousey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rousey wants to sweep here but Strikes controlling him for the moment.
Rousey has a closed guard, preventing Strikes from standing up.
Rousey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Strikes manages to get himself to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rousey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Strikes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rousey is working hard here to advance position.

Strikes pushes Rousey off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Rousey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rousey is trying to control the position but Strikes postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Strikes wants to get up but he can't break Rousey's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Rousey has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Strikes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rousey wants to control but Strikes is keeping him busy.
Rousey lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Strikes down.
Rousey sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Strikes is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Strikes tries to bench press Rousey off him but Rousey keeps the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Ronald Rousey will probably get the nod.

Rousey uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Strikes.
Strikes takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rousey swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Strikes.
Strikes has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Rousey jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rousey throws a nice outside leg kick.
Carlos Strikes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Strikes takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rousey is looking to chop away at Strikes's legs.
Strikes looks to score with a jab to the body but Rousey is just out of range.
Strikes fails in his attempt to clinch.
Strikes throws a push kick but Rousey slaps the foot to one side.
Rousey tries to counter with a takedown but Strikes is quick to defend against it.
Rousey fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Strikes has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Rousey shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Strikes with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rousey to score with a decent uppercut.

Strikes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Carlos Strikes has got the better of the ground game so far.
Strikes tries to pass to full mount but Rousey defends it.
Rousey keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Strikes trying to control from Rousey's half guard. Rousey has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Strikes manages to break the clinch.
Ronald Rousey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Strikes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Rousey buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Strikes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rousey quickly recovers to half guard.
Rousey is trying to maintain the position but Strikes is very close to passing his half guard.
Strikes misses with a head shot. Rousey uses the momentum to regain guard.

Rousey isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Strikes stacks Rousey on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Strikes!
Carlos Strikes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Strikes tries to stand and escape but Rousey actually recovers to full guard.
Ronald Rousey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rousey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Strikes's guard.

Strikes controls Rousey momentarily but Rousey frees himself.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rousey is stalling in the full guard.

I think Rousey has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
