Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gale Contreras! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kung Fu Panda! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Contreras moves into the clinch. Panda gets control of Contreras's arms and successfully pulls guard. Panda will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Panda looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Contreras has picked Panda up and slammed him! Panda can't keep hold of the triangle and Contreras manages to pass to side control! Panda tries to get back to half guard but can't. Contreras working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Panda tries to bench press Contreras off him but Contreras keeps the position. Panda is trying to control Contreras's posture but Contreras avoids it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Panda is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Contreras off and has taken his back!
That's one minute gone in the round. I really don't envy Contreras right now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Contreras breaks Panda's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Panda is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Contreras rolls with it to try and escape but Panda cranks on the arm and Contreras is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kung Fu Panda!
