PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gerard Woodward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rumple Stiltscan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumple Stiltscan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gerard Woodward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rumple Stiltscan!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Woodward tries to sprawl but Stiltscan drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Woodward is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Woodward looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Woodward is looking for a sweep. Stiltscan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Stiltscan is looking to take a break and control but Woodward is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stiltscan sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Stiltscan wants to stand but Woodward has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Woodward moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Stiltscan pushing down on Woodward's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Stiltscan is trying to control the action in half guard but Woodward is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stiltscan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Woodward's guard.
Stiltscan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Woodward's guard.
Woodward really is a fat lump.
Stiltscan wants to stand and escape but instead Woodward has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Woodward is working Stiltscan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Woodward accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Woodward throwing strikes from guard but Stiltscan blocks nicely.
Woodward is in close to Stiltscan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Stiltscan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Stiltscan wants to sweep but no luck.
Woodward lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Stiltscan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woodward scoring with punches to the head and body.

Stiltscan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Woodward stacks Stiltscan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Woodward!
Stiltscan on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Stiltscan is trying to control Woodward's posture but Woodward avoids it.
Woodward works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Stiltscan is looking for a sweep.
Stiltscan can't do much from the bottom here.
Stiltscan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Stiltscan trying to control but Woodward postures up.
Stiltscan is trying to get back to full guard.
Woodward is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Woodward takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Stiltscan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Woodward's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Woodward fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Stiltscan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stiltscan showed some decent athleticism there.
Stiltscan prevents Woodward from improving his position.
Stiltscan wants to take a breather but Woodward is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stiltscan working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Woodward's thigh. Woodward counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Stiltscan looking to sit in guard and control but Woodward gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Woodward chips away with some ground and pound.
Stiltscan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Woodward won't allow Stiltscan to get back to his feet.
Woodward is looking to work some ground and pound but Stiltscan has wrist control.
Woodward postures up and lands a big shot to Stiltscan's brow.
Woodward with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Woodward accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Stiltscan trying to control the position.
Stiltscan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Stiltscan trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Woodward swats away the attempt to clinch by Stiltscan.
Woodward seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Stiltscan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Woodward quickly recovers to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woodward is not content to let Stiltscan control the position.
Woodward is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Stiltscan is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Woodward!
Woodward might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Woodward tries to reverse the position but Stiltscan maintains control.
Stiltscan throwing strikes here but Woodward is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Woodward bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Stiltscan is adopting a defensive guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stiltscan manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Woodward has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Stiltscan regains guard immediately.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stiltscan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stiltscan wants to stand but Woodward is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Woodward content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Stiltscan will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gerard Woodward will probably get the nod.
That's time! Woodward's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Woodward blocks a head kick by Stiltscan.

Stiltscan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Woodward to the ground. Stiltscan is now in Woodward's guard.

Woodward is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stiltscan defends well.
Stiltscan tries to free his leg and advance position but Woodward is retaining full guard.
Stiltscan trying to control but Woodward is working from the bottom.

Woodward can't keep his opponent in guard - Stiltscan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woodward wants to control but Stiltscan is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Stiltscan misses with a head shot. Woodward uses the momentum to regain guard.
Stiltscan wants to stand but Woodward has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Woodward not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stiltscan trying to control but Woodward is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Stiltscan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Woodward tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Stiltscan is in Woodward's guard.

Woodward is trying to keep Stiltscan in close.

Stiltscan trying to control the position from guard on top but Woodward is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stiltscan passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Stiltscan tries to stand but Woodward is controlling his head.
Woodward avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Stiltscan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Woodward is looking to reverse the position.
Woodward struggling a bit here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Stiltscan sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Woodward is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Stiltscan goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Woodward rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Stiltscan's guard! Nice work there by Woodward!
Stiltscan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stiltscan is adopting a defensive guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rumple Stiltscan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Woodward has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
