PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carl Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaakko Parantainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parantainen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Eminem - White America kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jaakko Parantainen!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parantainen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Parantainen on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Burns throws a push kick but Parantainen slaps the foot to one side.
Parantainen is looking to clinch but Burns is avoiding it.
Burns gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Parantainen.


It looks like Carl Burns has been cut.
Burns scores with a crisp jab that stopped Parantainen in his tracks.

Parantainen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Burns looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Parantainen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Parantainen tries to score with some ground and pound. Burns controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Burns tries to buck Parantainen off but Parantainen is having none of it.
Parantainen throws an elbow but Burns slips to the side and avoids it well.

Parantainen goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Burns has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Parantainen but great work by Burns.
Parantainen is looking for a sweep.
Parantainen isn't going anywhere.
Parantainen is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Parantainen takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Parantainen is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Parantainen takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Parantainen prevents Burns from improving position.
Parantainen tries to improve position but can't.
Burns postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Parantainen is trying to improve his position.
Burns just content to control the position.
Parantainen manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Parantainen blocking the ground and pound attempt from Burns.
Burns is keen to just control but Parantainen is a slippery customer.
Burns slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Burns is trying to control the action in half guard but Parantainen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Parantainen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Burns avoids it really well and circles away.
Parantainen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Carl Burns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaakko Parantainen.
Parantainen steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Burns.
A little jabbing left from Parantainen on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Parantainen is looking to clinch but Burns is avoiding it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Burns just misses with a punch to the body.
Burns falls off balance throwing a combination

and Parantainen counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Parantainen prevents Burns from improving his position.

Parantainen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Burns doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Parantainen.
Parantainen wants to control but Burns is keeping him busy.

Parantainen is looking for a kimura here.
Burns is not content to let Parantainen control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jaakko Parantainen will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Burns's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Parantainen moves away from the strike by Burns.

Parantainen closes the distance and clinches.

Parantainen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Burns throws a leg kick but Parantainen sees it coming and moves out of range.
Burns looks to score with a jab to the body but Parantainen is just out of range.
Parantainen wants to counter with a clinch but Burns pushes him away.
That kick from Burns tenderised Parantainen's leg. Parantainen is trying to keep his angry face on.

Parantainen moves into the clinch.
Parantainen has Burns pressed against the cage.
Parantainen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Burns avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burns has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Parantainen regains guard immediately.
Burns throws a big right hand that misses.
Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Parantainen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Parantainen working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Burns.
Burns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Parantainen is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Parantainen is looking to stand up but Burns isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Parantainen is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Burns frees his head nicely. Oh but Parantainen has switched to an armbar! Burns is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Jaakko Parantainen!
Jaakko Parantainen decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
