Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathan Hall! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, George Gilbert! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hall throws a jab when Gilbert was well out of range. Hall throws a quick inside leg kick. A good leg kick by Hall. Hall throws a hook but Gilbert avoids it easily. Hall throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gilbert on the side of the head. Gilbert fails with a takedown attempt. A telegraphed right hand from Hall misses the target. Hall stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Hall throws a sloppy head kick and Gilbert moves out of range easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hall throws a wild body kick that Gilbert sees coming a mile off. Hall swings for the body but Gilbert moves out of range.
Gilbert lands with a nice combination. Hall backs away looking to recover.
It looks like Jonathan Hall has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gilbert goes for a double leg but Hall avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hall continues to drive forward.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hall cracks Gilbert with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Gilbert tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Hall pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Gilbert is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:07 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jonathan Hall! Our winner, Jonathan Hall, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
