Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brent Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Tony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brent Schultz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Tony!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tony moves into the clinch.
Tony stalls.

Tony pulls Schultz into guard.
Tony is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Schultz is controlling him.
Schultz connects with a couple of short punches.
Schultz throws a big right hand that misses.
Schultz wants to stand but Tony is controlling his posture from full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schultz is in close to Tony's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tony wants to get back to his feet but Schultz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Tony is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Tony looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Schultz has picked Tony up and slammed him! Tony can't keep hold of the triangle and Schultz manages to pass to side control!
Tony is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Schultz lands some shots froms side control.
Tony takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Schultz creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Tony is trying to get back to half guard.

Schultz wants to stand but Tony has his arm trapped.
You can see the frustration on Tony's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Schultz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tony has escaped the position, nice work there.
Tony tries to buck Schultz off but Schultz is having none of it.
Schultz landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Schultz tries to score with some ground and pound. Tony controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Tony manages to get back to half guard.

Tony is defending against the submission attempts here by Schultz.
Schultz winds up and cracks Tony with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Tony slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Schultz with a flurry of punches that miss.

Schultz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Tony looking for a guillotine here but Schultz defends easily.
Tony utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tony feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent Schultz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Tony looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Schultz!

Schultz can't do much from the bottom here.
Schultz pushes Tony away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tony gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Schultz tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Tony wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schultz keeps working.
Schultz is trying to improve his position.
Schultz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tony's best efforts.

Tony slows the pace down in half guard.
Schultz controlling the position for now.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Matt Tony seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tony shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schultz's guard.
Matt Tony has got the better of the ground game so far.
Schultz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Schultz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Schultz keeping moving, preventing Tony from controlling successfully.
Tony looking to sit in guard and control but Schultz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Schultz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Tony manages to escape and get back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tony is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schultz defends well.

Tony throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Schultz connects with a couple of short punches.
Tony not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Tony working a defensive guard but Schultz manages to pass into side control anyway.

Schultz tries for a kimura but Tony is defending well.

Schultz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Tony has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Schultz but great work by Tony.
Schultz can't do much from the bottom here.
Schultz is not content to let Tony control the position.
Tony is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Schultz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Tony is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Tony showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Tony misses with a few strikes there.
Tony throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
No joy there for Tony, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
It looked like Schultz was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Tony shoots in and bounces Schultz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Schultz trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Schultz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tony is aware though and is defending well.
Schultz controls Tony momentarily but Tony frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schultz wants to stand but Tony is controlling the position.

Schultz controls Tony momentarily but Tony frees himself.
Tony stands up out of Schultz's guard for a moment - Schultz manages to land a nice upkick.
Schultz controls Tony momentarily but Tony frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Tony gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Schultz keeping moving, preventing Tony from controlling successfully.

Schultz is adopting a defensive guard.
Tony sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Schultz's guard.
Schultz is trying to maintain the position but Tony is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Tony is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Schultz blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tony.
Schultz is trying to maintain the position but Tony is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Tony tries to close the distance and clinch but Schultz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Schultz is looking for a counter combo.
Schultz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tony wants to counter with a clinch but Schultz pushes him away.
Tony throws a head kick that Schultz semi-blocks.

Tony gets a double leg takedown into Schultz's guard.
Tony throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Tony tries to free his leg and advance position but Schultz is retaining full guard.

Schultz wants to control but Tony passes easily into half guard.

Tony takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Tony is fighting to break Schultz's control of his arms but Schultz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Tony throws a big elbow that misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tony passes Schultz's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Tony is taking a breather. Schultz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Schultz is not content to let Tony control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Tony comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tony has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
