Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Uso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maki Pulu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Uso's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, So Close Now. Pulu has chosen Alive as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jonathan Uso!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maki Pulu!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uso ducks under a wild hook from Pulu.
Pulu connects with a crisp jab.
Uso looks to land a combination. Pulu sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Maki Pulu has been cut.
Pulu throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Uso drops down looking for a counter takedown but Pulu sprawls and moves away.
Uso fails with the takedown.
Uso shoots in but Pulu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pulu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pulu waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Uso.
Uso feinted with a counter takedown.

Uso looking to score a takedown here. Pulu is defending well but Uso drives through and ends up in Pulu's guard.

Pulu looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pulu working for a triangle but Uso defends it easily.

Pulu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Uso doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Uso manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Uso is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Uso has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pulu looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Pulu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Uso doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Uso manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pulu wants to sweep but no luck.

Pulu throws his legs up looking for a submission but Uso uses it to pass to side control.

Uso decides to stand back up. Uso steps back and let's Pulu get back to his feet.

Uso closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Uso controlling the pace.
Pulu is looking for a sweep. Uso is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pulu is still trying to improve position.

Uso is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pulu is just riding it out for now. Uso eventually gives up the hold.

Pulu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Uso pulls his head out easily.
Pulu is refusing to be controlled, as Uso sits in half guard.

Pulu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Uso pulls his head out easily.
Pulu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Uso is taking a breather. Pulu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Pulu is trying to get back to full guard.
Uso trying to control the action but Pulu is working from the bottom.
Pulu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Uso is working away from the top position though.
Uso wants to take a breather but Pulu is having none of it.
Pulu wants to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pulu moves into full guard.
Pulu lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Pulu pushes down on Uso's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Uso is trying to stand back up but Pulu is controlling him
Uso trying to hold on to Pulu's head to control him but Pulu postures up.
Pulu thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Uso's head.
Pulu tries to pass the half guard into mount. Uso knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jonathan Uso will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Maki Pulu's cut.
That's time! Uso's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Donk. Pulu catches Uso right on the button with a cross.
Pulu misses with a double jab

and Uso decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pulu's guard.
Pulu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pulu is thwarting Uso's attempts to control the position.
Pulu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Uso keeps working.

Pulu is trying to work for a kimura but Uso is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Uso pushes Pulu off looking to stand but Pulu dives back in and keeps control.

The fighters are battling for position here. Uso manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pulu pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Uso is keeping the position for now.

Pulu is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Uso pushes a forearm under Pulu's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Pulu is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jonathan Uso!

An out of breath Jonathan Uso thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
