PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aurelio Mullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ywong Taka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aurelio Mullen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ywong Taka! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taka moves into range and clinches up with Mullen. Taka gets underhooks to prevent Mullen's takedown attempt.
Mullen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Taka to keep the fight standing. Taka drags the fight down to the ground.
Mullen wanted to stand there but Taka had control of the position. Mullen prevents Taka from getting back to his feet. Mullen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Mullen has gone for a leg lock! Taka slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mullen's guard. Taka pushes down on Mullen's leg and manages to get into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taka seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Taka not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taka looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Taka throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Mullen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Taka in particular looking to stall.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mullen looks like he's trying to stand up.
Taka is pressing down on Mullen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mullen is holding on for now. Taka takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mullen on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Taka throws a combination that misses and Mullen counters by clinching up. Mullen tries to pull guard but Taka forces him back to his feet, against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aurelio Mullen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mullen has had enough of the clinch but Taka keeps him there for the moment. Taka's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mullen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Taka is fending him off so far but Mullen persists. Nope, Taka circles away and we're back to standing. Taka takes the fight into the clinch. Taka pulls guard successfully.
Taka had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mullen defends it easily. Taka should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Mullen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Taka manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mullen has Taka in his guard. Taka advances to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Taka lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Taka passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mullen! Taka controlling his opponent. Taka working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Taka controlling the position easily from mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ywong Taka dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Taka swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Taka shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Taka seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Taka looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Ywong Taka has got the better of the ground game so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taka is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taka performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Ground and pound from Taka. Taka uses his free foot to push down on Mullen's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mullen. Taka looking to finish Mullen with some ground and pound. This is bad for Mullen!
Mullen is rocked! Taka controlling from mount. Oh Mullen is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Taka drops a big elbow. That's hurt Mullen! More shots from Taka and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ywong Taka!
