Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Pinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Ponjev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arthur Pinto could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Sam Ponjev's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Arthur Pinto! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sam Ponjev! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ponjev has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ponjev there as he acknowledges the shot. Ponjev cracks Pinto with a good jab. Ponjev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Pinto avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ponjev. Ponjev misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Ponjev looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Ponjev misses with the ground and pound. Pinto can't do much from the bottom here. Ponjev landing a few strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pinto is looking for a sweep. Ponjev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ponjev trying to control the position but Pinto is working away. Ponjev looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Pinto is avoiding damage well.
Ponjev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ponjev is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Pinto's shoulder. That is not cool. Ponjev working the ground and pound but Pinto is defending the strikes. Pinto pushes Ponjev away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ponjev gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. You can see the frustration on Pinto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Pinto wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Pinto dodges the ground and pound from Ponjev. Ponjev trying to control the position but Pinto is working away.

Pinto was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Pinto swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Ponjev rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Pinto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ponjev is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pinto sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Ponjev has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Ponjev fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ponjev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pinto defends it nicely. Arthur Pinto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Ponjev. Ponjev keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pinto misses with a body shot
and Ponjev counters with a takedown into side control. Ponjev goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Pinto has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ponjev but great work by Pinto. Pinto wants to stand but Ponjev is controlling his arm. Pinto decides to stand back up. Pinto steps back and let's Ponjev get back to his feet. Pinto avoids the body shot from Ponjev.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ponjev misses with a lunging right hand
and Pinto counters with a three punch combo that has Ponjev backing up. Ponjev nods at Pinto to acknowledge the strikes. Pinto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Pinto moves out of range of the strikes. Pinto thuds his right hand into Ponjev's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Ponjev is rocked! Sam Ponjev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ponjev blocks a jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sam Ponjev dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
The fighters circling - Ponjev throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Pinto throws a jab when Ponjev was well out of range. Ponjev swings widly with a right hand
and Pinto counters with a right hand to the body. Ponjev throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Pinto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Ponjev misses with a hook. Pinto throwing a counter right hand but Ponjev manages to avoid it. Ponjev throws out a powerful jab. Pinto throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Arthur Pinto is winning the standup battle so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ponjev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pinto defends well and Ponjev ends up having to push Pinto into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Pinto throws the left hand but Ponjev avoids the punch easily. Pinto missing with a left hand there. Ponjev was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ponjev bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Pinto throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ponjev sees it coming and avoids it easily. Left hook, right uppercut from Ponjev.
It looks like Arthur Pinto has been cut. Pinto fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Ponjev swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Pinto lands with an uppercut that bounces Ponjev off the cage and back into range. Ponjev shoots and misses and Pinto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Arthur Pinto is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ponjev doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pinto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Arthur Pinto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Ponjev.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A left lands for Pinto. Ponjev is still on wobbly legs! Can Pinto finish him? Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Pinto looks to throw the jab but Ponjev is out of range. Ponjev seems to have recovered his senses. Nice takedown defense from Pinto. No joy for Ponjev on that attempt. Ponjev misses with a right hand and Pinto counters with a straight right hand. Ponjev scores with a punch to the head. Ponjev takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Pinto is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Ponjev showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Pinto.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ponjev keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ponjev changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Ponjev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Pinto appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Pinto throws a hook but Ponjev avoids it easily. Pinto scores with a nice right hand.
Pinto throws a body punch but Ponjev moves out of range. Nice cross by Pinto. Ponjev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Pinto scores with a counter punch that sends Ponjev to the canvas! Pinto smells blood - he's punishing Ponjev with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Ponjev has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Arthur Pinto! Arthur Pinto retains his welterweight title! A very excited looking Arthur Pinto rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
