Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Valeres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by I'm a soldier. Roman Valeres is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roman Valeres!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valeres shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Diaz napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Valeres is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Diaz has escaped the position, nice work there.
Diaz manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Diaz is trying to maintain the position but Valeres is very close to passing his half guard.
Valeres controlling the action here.
Diaz avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Valeres.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz moves into full guard.
Valeres really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Valeres postures up.
Valeres must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Diaz keeping moving, preventing Valeres from controlling successfully.

Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Valeres can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Valeres postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Valeres wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Diaz looking for a guillotine here but Valeres defends easily.
Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - Valeres advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Valeres's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Valeres's back!
Valeres is really stuck here.
Valeres is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Diaz off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Diaz is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Valeres has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Diaz has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Valeres taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Diaz doesn't care though - he's delighted!
