PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Deangelo Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emily Play (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emily Play told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Deangelo Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Emily Play!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Play scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perry taking punishment in the form of punches.
Perry sneaks back into half guard.

Perry looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Perry moves into full guard.

Perry looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Perry manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Play manages to get himself to full guard.

Perry distracts Play with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Perry postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Play is controlling Perry's posture.
Perry missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Play not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Perry slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Perry cracks Play with a solid left hand.
Perry controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Perry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Perry chips away with some ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Perry not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Play drives through with a takedown into Perry's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Perry throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Play really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Perry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Play wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Play can do anything to dispel that myth.

Perry is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Play is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Perry tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Perry has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Perry is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Play has escaped the position, nice work there.

Play closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Play lands in his opponent's guard.
Play wants to control from the top but Perry keeps moving.
Perry is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Perry lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Play is looking for a sweep. Perry is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Deangelo Perry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Perry takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Play is looking to get back to full guard here but Perry has managed to pass to side control instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Perry looks up at the clock and then as Play takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Perry smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Play seems a little lost for a moment, as Perry dominates the positioning.

Perry will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Perry content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Perry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perry is pushing Play up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
