Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Garth Gordon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rafe La Vina! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! La Vina tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gordon paws at him with a jab and circles away. Gordon throws a counter high kick but La Vina was just alert enough to avoid it. La Vina keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. La Vina is looking to clinch. Gordon uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by La Vina.
Gordon lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. La Vina avoids the head kick by Gordon.
Gordon avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. La Vina tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Gordon is looking to counter the offense by La Vina and move into the clinch. La Vina moves into the clinch successfully.
La Vina breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Gordon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. La Vina is trying to defend but Gordon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
That's one minute gone in the round. La Vina is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gordon scores with a couple of nice shots. La Vina really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gordon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. La Vina is trying to stand up here but Gordon is controlling him well. Gordon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. La Vina blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gordon. Gordon is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. La Vina should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Gordon maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! La Vina could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Gordon has cracked it and La Vina is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Gordon!
