The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makatua throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Van Der Sar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Makatua throws a series of punches but Van Der Sar moves out of range.
Makatua throws a leg kick but Van Der Sar sees it coming and checks it nicely.
It looked like Van Der Sar wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Makatua throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Makatua works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Makatua looks for the body kick but Van Der Sar saw that one coming.
Makatua throws a body punch but Van Der Sar moves out of range.
Makatua tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sam Makatua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Makatua throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and as Makatua tries to reset, Van Der Sar cracks him with a perfect counter right hand that drops him to the mat! Makatua is trying to get up but he's doing the chicken dance and face plants back to the floor - that's enough for the referee and he's called the bout! This one is all over!
