16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Joaquim Antunes! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schulmann goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Antunes changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Antunes goes for a double leg but Schulmann avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Schulmann continues to drive forward. Schulmann lets loose with a powerful body kick. Antunes will feel that in the morning. Schulmann is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Antunes. The fighters circling - Schulmann throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Schulmann swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Antunes tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Antunes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Antunes feints the counter takedown. Schulmann tries a head kick but it misses.
Antunes with the counter takedown but Schulmann avoids it easily. Schulmann really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schulmann throws a jab but it's blocked by Antunes. Schulmann misses with a leg kick and Antunes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Schulmann's guard. Antunes throws an elbow that misses. Schulmann uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Antunes's guard. Nice move by Schulmann!
Antunes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Schulmann won't allow Antunes to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schulmann wants to control from the top but Antunes keeps moving. Schulmann missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Schulmann slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Antunes wants to sweep but no luck. Antunes keeping moving, preventing Schulmann from controlling successfully. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Antunes is on top in guard.
Schulmann seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Antunes sitting in guard here, content to control. Antunes preventing the sweep. Schulmann not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
