PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sean Curry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Hulme (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Curry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaun Hulme!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hulme closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hulme lands in his opponent's guard.
Hulme wants to pass the guard but Curry is keeping the position.
Hulme wants to control from the top but Curry keeps moving.
Hulme is stalling in the full guard.
Hulme won't allow Curry to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hulme is looking to work some ground and pound but Curry has wrist control.

Hulme looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Hulme looking to sit in guard and control but Curry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hulme looking for a sweep. Not yet Hulme, not yet.
Hulme avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Curry postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Curry trying to control but Hulme is working from the bottom.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hulme is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hulme does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
It looked like Curry was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Hulme pushes Curry up against the cage in a clinch.
Curry wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Curry escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Hulme clinches up against the cage.
Hulme tries to circle away but Curry has him pinned against the cage.

Curry breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Hulme fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Curry, pushing him back against the cage.
Curry can't break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hulme is struggling to control the position.

Hulme is trying to trip Curry. He has hold of a leg but Curry is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hulme persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Hulme missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Curry controls Hulme momentarily but Hulme frees himself.
Hulme tries to free his leg and advance position but Curry is retaining full guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Curry looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hulme misses with a head kick.
As Hulme tries to get set, Curry tries to push him back and clinch up but Hulme manages to avoid the attempt.
Hulme misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hulme lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Curry gets tackled into the cage by Hulme. Hulme maintains the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hulme turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Hulme manages to end up in side control.
You can see the frustration on Curry's face as Hulme controls the position.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hulme misses with a jab, cross combination.

Hulme shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Curry manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hulme decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hulme fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Curry to the ground. Hulme is now in Curry's guard.
Hulme stops Curry from standing up.

Curry is looking to stand back up but Hulme counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Curry.
Hulme seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Curry looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hulme is just content to waste time from the top position. Curry takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Curry avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hulme looking to sit in guard and control but Curry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hulme wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Curry has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hulme is proving hard to escape from.
Shaun Hulme has got the better of the ground game so far.

Curry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Curry content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Hulme keeps control of Curry as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Hulme is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Hulme lands a right hand.

Curry manages to break the clinch.

Hulme closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Curry stops Hulme from passing to mount.
Hulme with the ground and pound but Curry regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Hulme is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Shaun Hulme showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Curry's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Hulme looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Curry is refusing to be controlled, as Hulme sits in half guard.
Hulme wants to stand up but Curry manages to regain full guard.

Hulme throws a strike but Curry rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Curry will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Curry's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Hulme seems keen to control Curry's posture.

Hulme looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hulme wants to sweep but no luck.
Curry postures up and lands a big shot to Hulme's brow.

Hulme looking for subs off his back but Curry has passed one foot through into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hulme is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Curry jumps into side control!

Hulme tries to buck Curry off but Curry is having none of it.
Hulme takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Curry lands a decent elbow from side control.

Curry tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Curry has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hulme wants to control but Curry postures up.

Curry wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hulme, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hulme is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Hulme takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hulme is trying to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Hulme's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Curry tries to stand but Hulme is controlling his head.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hulme pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Hulme rushes Curry and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Curry's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sean Curry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Shaun Hulme is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Hulme shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Curry is trying to defend but Hulme finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sean Curry.
Well Hulme has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
