PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gail Hammond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandr Saitiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saitiev comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dan Severn Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Aleksandr Saitiev has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gail Hammond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Saitiev!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hammond.

Saitiev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hammond stops Saitiev from passing to mount.
Hammond is being controlled here.
It looks like Saitiev might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Hammond tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Saitiev wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammond manages to work his way to half guard, despite Saitiev's best efforts.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Saitiev in particular looking to stall.
Hammond wants to control but Saitiev is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hammond jumps guard and drags Saitiev to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hammond manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Saitiev manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hammond slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Aleksandr Saitiev dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hammond closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Saitiev stuffs the takedown.

Saitiev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammond. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hammond is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Saitiev is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hammond manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Saitiev manages to get himself to full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hammond accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Hammond is trying hard to land a takedown here. Saitiev sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Saitiev's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Hammond is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Saitiev takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Aleksandr Saitiev is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hammond is looking to improve his position but Saitiev isn't that keen on the idea.
Hammond sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Saitiev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Saitiev changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hammond looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

You can see the frustration on Hammond's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Aleksandr Saitiev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Saitiev winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
