PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shayne Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Anggiat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shayne Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonathan Anggiat!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anggiat dives in and scores a takedown into Reyes's guard.

Reyes has his foot on Anggiat's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Anggiat works his way back into a safe position though.
Anggiat throws a big elbow that misses.
Anggiat trying to control but Reyes is working from the bottom.
Reyes being controlled here, momentarily.
Anggiat trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reyes is looking for a triangle here but Anggiat uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Reyes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Anggiat gets to mount! Reyes was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Reyes wants to control but Anggiat is having none of it.
Reyes flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Reyes trying desperately to get to his feet.
Anggiat looking to control but Reyes is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Reyes can't escape the position.
Reyes wants to control but Anggiat is having none of it.
Reyes is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Anggiat controlling the position easily from mount.
Anggiat sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Reyes throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Reyes bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Anggiat looking for a sweep. Not yet Anggiat, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Anggiat looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Reyes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Anggiat working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Reyes.

Anggiat keeping moving, preventing Reyes from controlling successfully.
Anggiat looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Reyes trying to control the position from guard on top but Anggiat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Reyes avoids the head kick by Anggiat.

Anggiat closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Reyes quickly recovers to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Anggiat takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Reyes is trying to maintain the position but Anggiat is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Reyes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Anggiat swivels and escapes.
Reyes shoots in looking for a takedown but Anggiat manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Reyes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Reyes shoots in for a takedown but Anggiat shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Anggiat shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Reyes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Anggiat postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Reyes to stand up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reyes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Anggiat sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Anggiat throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Anggiat misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Anggiat closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Reyes did well to prevent Anggiat getting side control.

Reyes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Reyes wants to improve his position but Anggiat is controlling well.
Anggiat looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Reyes flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Anggiat is thwarting Reyes's attempts to control the position.
Anggiat is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Reyes really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Anggiat missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Anggiat gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Anggiat displaying some good clinch control by pressing Reyes up against the cage.

Anggiat has Reyes pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Anggiat pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Reyes tumbling to the mat - Anggiat dives into Reyes's guard.
Anggiat stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reyes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Anggiat drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Reyes dives on top into guard.

Reyes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jonathan Anggiat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Reyes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Anggiat wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Reyes dives in for a single leg takedown but Anggiat sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Anggiat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reyes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Anggiat misses with the ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Anggiat throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Reyes works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Anggiat keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Anggiat is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Anggiat is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Reyes!
Anggiat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Anggiat has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Anggiat prevents Reyes from getting the reversal.

Anggiat working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Reyes tries to hold on but Anggiat pushes him away.

Reyes is just holding on here. Anggiat manages to take his back.

Reyes prevents Anggiat from getting a body triangle.
Anggiat has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Reyes's body.

Anggiat has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Even with his hooks in, Anggiat manages to miss with strikes from the back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Anggiat looking for the choke but no joy.
Reyes looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonathan Anggiat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Anggiat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
