Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ello Mate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Stein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ello Mate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Stein! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mate shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stein as he jumps to the side. Mate looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! A combination from Stein does no damage. Stein is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Mate shoots in for a double leg but Stein sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Mate slips a jab from Stein. Mate gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Stein trying to control the position from guard on top but Mate is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stein controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Stein works over Mate with some ground and pound from guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stein scoring with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stein lands a couple of elbows. Stein sitting in guard, not really doing much. I looks like Stein might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Stein postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mate has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mate is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Stein has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Stein preventing the sweep. Stein wants to control from the top but Mate keeps moving. Stein postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Mate keeping moving, preventing Stein from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stein stands up over Mate, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Stein makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Mate not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stein postures up and lands a big shot to Mate's brow. Stein thows a big elbow that misses. Stein trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mate has his takedown stuffed so Stein counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ello Mate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mate will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stein accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stein looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Mate has his foot on Stein's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stein works his way back into a safe position though. Stein preventing the sweep. Stein working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Stein forces his way into half guard. Stein stops Mate from getting back to his feet.
Stein not landing any meaningful shots this time. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stein lands a nice short elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Stein dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Mate has his takedown stuffed and Stein counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Stein. Stein is working Mate over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mate looking to control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Mate misses with a takedown and Stein counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mate is looking to control Stein's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mate avoid being mounted? Stein passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mate! Stein looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Stein lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Stein goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mate turns into him and now he's in Stein's guard.
Stein keeping moving, preventing Mate from controlling successfully. Mate passes Stein's left leg - he's now in half guard. Stein throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Stein is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Stein preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stein flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Mate throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Stein punching from the bottom.
Stein lands a couple of sideways elbows. Stein trying to control here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mate with a poor takedown and Stein counters with a takedown into side control. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ello Mate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Stein trying to control the action but Mate is working from the bottom. Mate can't do much from the bottom here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mate tries to buck Stein off but Stein is having none of it. Mate struggling a bit here. Stein looks up at the clock and then as Mate takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stein smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Stein in side control lands a decent elbow. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Stein is working Mate over with some ground and pound from side control.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Stein with a lazy takedown attempt and Mate makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. John Stein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stein closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Stein lands in his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Stein showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Mate tries for a takedown but Stein circles away easily and Stein counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mate's guard now. Mate throws his legs up looking for a submission but Stein uses it to pass to side control.
Mate is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mate struggling a bit here. Stein in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Stein is looking to take a break and control but Mate is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mate is looking to reverse the position. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stein working the body and head with strikes. Mate takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mate throws a nice inside leg kick. Mate with a poor takedown and Stein counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Mate wants to get back to his feet.
Mate wants to improve his position but Stein is controlling well.
Mate has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Stein is working away from the top position though. John Stein is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stein is taking a breather. Mate says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Let's hope that Stein has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Mate is looking to control Stein's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mate avoid being mounted? Mate tries to kick Stein off but Stein keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Stein perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mate trying to control but Stein postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Despite being in the dominant position, John Stein just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mate doesn't succeed with the takedown and Stein counters with a straight punch to the midsection. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ello Mate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mate tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stein paws at him with a jab and circles away. Stein gets the takedown into side control. Mate is letting Stein control him for a moment. Mate tries to bench press Stein off him but Stein keeps the position.
And that's the end of the fight! John Stein comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Stein has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
