The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merit�hti walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. LaFontier checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
LaFontier blocks a jab.

LaFontier scores with the left hand. Merit�hti knows he should have avoided that one.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as LaFontier checks a leg kick.
LaFontier ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Merit�hti moves away.
LaFontier connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Merit�hti lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and LaFontier has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from LaFontier and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
A little feinted left hand from LaFontier on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
LaFontier ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Merit�hti has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
LaFontier moves out of range of the strikes.

and LaFontier cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
LaFontier on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Merit�hti. Merit�hti obviously looking to wear him down.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jaako Merit�hti seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
LaFontier lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Merit�hti circles away quickly and effectively.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Charles LaFontier decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
