PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Manning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar comes to the cage accompanied by See you again. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brock Lesnar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Manning! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Manning throws a leg kick but Lesnar sees it coming and checks it nicely. Nice takedown defense from Lesnar. No joy for Manning on that attempt. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lesnar is defended easily by Manning. Lesnar drives through with a takedown into guard. Lesnar is looking to stand up but Manning won't let him. Lesnar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Manning really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lesnar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lesnar trying to control the position from guard on top but Manning is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Manning can't keep his opponent in guard - Lesnar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lesnar in particular looking to stall. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Manning can do anything to dispel that myth. Lesnar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Lesnar takes a swing at Manning's ribcage but misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Lesnar tries for a takedown but Manning sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Manning gets in close and instigates a clinch. Manning gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Manning looks winded! Manning content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Manning must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lesnar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Lesnar is looking for a triangle but Manning pushes his legs off easily.
Manning trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Lesnar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Manning is one step ahead there. My spies in Werewolf's cave inform me that Manning has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Lesnar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manning is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Lesnar presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Manning has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lesnar avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Lesnar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Horrible takedown attempt by Lesnar or perhaps it was just good defense by Manning, which made it look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brock Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Manning moves into the clinch successfully.
Manning tightens his grip and picks Lesnar up, before dumping him to the ground. Lesnar manages to land in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lesnar is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Manning lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Manning is pushing down on Lesnar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lesnar is fighting to maintain full guard but Manning has managed to sneak the leg through. Manning seems to be working for a kimura but Lesnar defends the submission attempt. Lesnar tries to get to full guard but Manning has control of the leg. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Manning works his foot free and advances to mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manning closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lesnar's guard. Lesnar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Manning doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Manning manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Lesnar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Manning chips away with some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Manning scoring with some ground and pound. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Manning advances position into side control!
That's one minute gone in the round. Lesnar wants to control but Manning postures up. Lesnar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Manning wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Eric Manning has got the better of the ground game so far. Manning trying to control the position but Lesnar is working away. Lesnar tries to bench press Manning off him but Manning keeps the position. Manning goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lesnar rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Manning's guard! Nice work there by Lesnar! Lesnar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Manning's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lesnar wants to control from the top but Manning keeps moving. Manning looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lesnar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Lesnar won't allow Manning to sweep him here. Manning has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manning has his foot on Lesnar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lesnar works his way back into a safe position though. Lesnar trying to control the position from guard on top but Manning is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Lesnar doesn't manage to clinch there - Manning circles away.
Lesnar tries to clinch but Manning moves out of range. Manning throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Lesnar wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lesnar is defended easily by Manning. Lesnar tries for a takedown but Manning sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Manning throws a low kick but it's checked well by Lesnar. Lesnar seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Manning lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Lesnar on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Lesnar tries to clinch but Manning moves out of range. Manning has a takedown stuffed. Lesnar swings for the body but Manning moves out of range.
Lesnar shoots in looking for a takedown. Manning tries to sprawl out of it but Lesnar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Manning manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brock Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Lesnar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Eric Manning showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Manning looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Lesnar! Lesnar sneaks back into half guard. Lesnar looking for submissions off his back. Lesnar is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Manning's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Manning's back! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lesnar has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Manning has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Lesnar's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Lesnar wants to control but Manning manages to buck him off and is now in Lesnar's guard! Nice work there by Manning! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Manning accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lesnar is looking for a triangle but Manning pushes his legs off easily.
Manning wants to control from the top but Lesnar keeps moving. Lesnar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Manning sitting in guard, not really doing much. Manning is in close to Lesnar's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manning trying to control but Lesnar is working from the bottom. Manning is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Lesnar has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Manning is looking to defend but Lesnar has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Manning! Lesnar pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Manning taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Brock Lesnar! An out of breath Brock Lesnar thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
