The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smalls stuffs the takedown.
Watnabe avoids the body shot from Smalls.
Watnabe goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Smalls circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smalls is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Smalls shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Watnabe tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Smalls counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Watnabe tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smalls got a little sloppy there for a moment and Watnabe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smalls has managed to get both his arms back between Watnabe's legs - danger averted.
Smalls drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smalls jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smalls wants to control from the top but Watnabe keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Watnabe is looking for a choke. Smalls gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Smalls manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

Watnabe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Smalls gets to his feet. Watnabe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Watnabe shoots in looking for a takedown. Smalls tries to sprawl out of it but Watnabe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smalls manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smalls pushes Watnabe up against the cage in a clinch.
Smalls misses with a short punch on the inside.
Smalls tries to score a body lock takedown but Watnabe shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Smalls breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watnabe throws a leg kick but Smalls moved away.
Kano Watnabe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smalls leaves Watnabe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smalls lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
And that's the end of the fight!
Kano Watnabe showed his dominance in that final round.
