Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Whales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evander Holyfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whales comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Shoot To Thrill. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evander Holyfield! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Whales lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Holyfield has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Holyfield and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Whales lands an overhand right. Whales fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Holyfield manages to avoid it. Whales avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Holyfield throws a jab when Whales was well out of range. Whales connects with a single shot there. We've been hearing reports that Whales has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Holyfield tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Whales defends well and Holyfield ends up having to push Whales into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Whales tries to counter with a takedown but Holyfield is quick to defend against it. Whales lands a slapping body shot.

Evander Holyfield seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Whales is trying hard to land a takedown here. Holyfield sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Whales misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Holyfield.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Holyfield. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whales lands with a hook. Holyfield tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Whales chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Holyfield throws a shot from downtown. Whales moves away and avoids it. Whales changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Holyfield throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Holyfield shoots in but no luck this time. Patrick Whales has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evander Holyfield. Holyfield pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Whales. Holyfield does a little dance to reset his feet. Holyfield is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Holyfield misses with a looping left. Whales shoots in looking for a takedown. Holyfield tries to sprawl out of it but Whales keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Holyfield manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Whales slips under a jab from Holyfield. Whales shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Holyfield napping and manages to drive through into side control! Holyfield told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Whales in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Whales lands some shots froms side control. Holyfield is still in real trouble! Can Whales finish him? Whales connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Holyfield some visible discomfort.
A big shot lands for Whales! That's hurt Holyfield! Will he recover? Whales fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Patrick Whales! Patrick Whales retains his light heavyweight title! A relieved looking Patrick Whales thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
