PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Blyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blyer comes to the cage accompanied by Eye Of The Tiger. Steel is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Immortal Technique-Point of no return. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 30 - 1, fighting out of New York, Cory Steel!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blyer looks to score with a jab to the body but Steel is just out of range.
Steel has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Blyer is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Steel tries to move into range but Blyer moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Steel throws a hook but Blyer blocks it.

It looks like Rocky Blyer has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Blyer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Steel moves away.
Steel avoids a punch combination nicely.
Blyer looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Blyer lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Cory Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blyer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Blyer uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Steel.

Blyer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Blyer swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Blyer tries to bum rush Steel with a series of wild strikes but Steel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Blyer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Blyer is working the combinations to good effect here.
Steel lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Blyer lands with an uppercut that bounces Steel off the cage and back into range.

Steel's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Blyer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Steel scrambles back to his feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Blyer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Blyer looks to land a combination but Steel avoids it well.
Steel has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Blyer finds it's way round the side to connect with Steel's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rocky Blyer dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Oooooh!!! Blyer has knocked Steel down with a huge combo! Blyer steps away and waves a wobbly Steel back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Blyer takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Steel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Blyer was well out of range. Poor timing from Steel.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Steel might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Blyer has got the better of the exchanges.

Blyer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Steel can do to turn this around?

Blyer feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Steel sprawling to the canvas! Steel rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Blyer finish him?!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Blyer rattles Steel with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Steel tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Blyer dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Steel stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Rocky Blyer!
A less than humble Rocky Blyer misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
