PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Buehrle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silvain Bourcier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bourcier comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Misha Calvin - Ready or not kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Marcus Buehrle has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marcus Buehrle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Silvain Bourcier!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bourcier tries to close the distance and clinch but Buehrle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bourcier tries to clinch but Buehrle moves out of range.
Buehrle lands a jab to the nose.
Buehrle chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Bourcier wants to clinch.

Bourcier looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buehrle pushes Bourcier off looking to stand but Bourcier dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buehrle is staying active underneath Bourcier, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Buehrle is trying to stand.
Bourcier thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Buehrle's head.
Buehrle is looking to escape.
Bourcier wants to pass the guard but Buehrle is defending well.

Bourcier is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Buehrle reverses the position - he's now on top in Bourcier's guard.
Buehrle won't allow Bourcier to sweep him here.
Bourcier keeps trying to improve his position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bourcier can do anything to dispel that myth.

Bourcier is looking to stand back up but Buehrle counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Bourcier.
Bourcier really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buehrle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bourcier wants to get back to full guard.
Buehrle wants to control but Bourcier is keeping him busy.
Bourcier looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Bourcier is trying is best to control the position here.
Bourcier on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Bourcier should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Bourcier looks like he's trying to stand up.
Bourcier is looking for a sweep. Buehrle is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bourcier shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Buehrle defends it nicely.
An attempted straight right counter from Buehrle misses the target.

Nice sprawl there from Buehrle as Bourcier shoots in.
Bourcier shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Buehrle pinned against the cage. Buehrle gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Buehrle is looking to counter the offense by Bourcier and move into the clinch.
Marcus Buehrle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Silvain Bourcier.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Bourcier throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Buehrle tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bourcier is in Buehrle's guard.

Buehrle keeping moving, preventing Bourcier from controlling successfully.
Bourcier wants to pass the guard but Buehrle is keeping the position.

Bourcier trying to control the position from guard on top but Buehrle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bourcier's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Bourcier stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Buehrle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bourcier scoring with punches to the head and body.

Buehrle is working an open guard so Bourcier takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Bourcier with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bourcier postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Bourcier working some strikes from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silvain Bourcier dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Bourcier closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Buehrle's guard.
Bourcier trying to control the position from guard on top but Buehrle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bourcier pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Buehrle is keeping the position for now.
Buehrle avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bourcier has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bourcier with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bourcier tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Buehrle manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bourcier, as that shot connected.
Marcus Buehrle is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Buehrle circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bourcier avoids the head kick by Buehrle.

Bourcier is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Buehrle's half guard.
Bourcier perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Bourcier looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Buehrle with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Buehrle on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Bourcier is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Buehrle has managed to free his arm - good work.

Buehrle won't allow Bourcier to pass to mount.
Nice strikes from Bourcier there.
Bourcier uses his free foot to push down on Buehrle's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Buehrle.

Buehrle is rocked!
Buehrle is squirming around, avoiding Bourcier's attempts to control the action.
The referee warns Buehrle that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oh Buehrle is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bourcier postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Buehrle is out cold - huge knockout for Bourcier!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Silvain Bourcier!
Silvain Bourcier opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
