PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Saitiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Tucker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saitiev comes to the cage accompanied by Dan Severn Theme. The crowd seem to be enjoying Tucker's choice of entrance music: The Platters - Only You. Todd Tucker looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Saitiev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 50 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Todd Tucker!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tucker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Saitiev avoids it really well and circles away.
Tucker looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Saitiev.
Saitiev is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saitiev has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tucker!

Tucker wants to try and get back to his feet.

Saitiev has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tucker wants to get back to his feet.
Saitiev controlling the pace for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tucker wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Tucker is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Saitiev controlling the pace for now.

Tucker throws a leg kick but Saitiev sees it coming and moves out of range.
Tucker shoots in looking for a takedown. Saitiev tries to sprawl out of it but Tucker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Saitiev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tucker throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Saitiev throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tucker tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Saitiev is in Tucker's guard.

Saitiev seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tucker for as long as he can get away with.

Tucker is breathing heavily.

Saitiev stalling.
Saitiev is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tucker can do to turn this around?
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Saitiev works his way into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Saitiev prevents Tucker from escaping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tucker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Saitiev.
Despite the aggression on Tucker's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Tucker swings wildly with an uppercut but Saitiev uses good head movement to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Tucker takes a swing at Saitiev's ribcage but misses.
Saitiev darts in looking for a takedown but Tucker gets double underhooks and turns Saitiev into the cage.
Tucker stuffs the takedown.
Tucker dives in for a single leg takedown but Saitiev sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Saitiev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Saitiev's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tucker can do anything to dispel that myth.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Saitiev is stinking the place up with his stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aleksandr Saitiev showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Saitiev, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

During a confident post fight interview, Aleksandr Saitiev thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Todd Tucker was interviewed post fight and said 'Thank you for this opportunity to fight. There's a really nice bridge near my house, I'm going to jump off it.'.
