PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sergej Rostam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akati Tokyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergej Rostam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Akati Tokyama!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rostam fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tokyama to the ground. Rostam is now in Tokyama's guard.
Rostam wants to control from the top but Tokyama keeps moving.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rostam accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rostam is trying to control the action in half guard but Tokyama is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rostam lands with a punch from half guard.

Rostam stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Tokyama to get to his feet.
Rostam has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Tokyama.
Tokyama jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Rostam tries to clinch but Tokyama is having none of it.
Tokyama goes for a double leg but Rostam avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rostam continues to drive forward.

and Rostam holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rostam creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Tokyama wants to stall.

Rostam works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Rostam is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Tokyama is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rostam connects with a decent elbow.

Rostam shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tokyama is trying to defend but Rostam finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Rostam wants to control from the top but Tokyama keeps moving.

Tokyama had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rostam defends it easily.

Rostam is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tokyama can do to turn this around?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rostam has a takedown stuffed.
Tokyama tries to counter by closing the distance.
Tokyama shoots in but no luck this time.
Rostam is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Tokyama.

Rostam drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tokyama pulls his leg out and moves away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Tokyama enables Rostam to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Tokyama manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rostam is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Rostam throws a hook to the side of Tokyama's head but Tokyama sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Akati Tokyama seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rostam shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tokyama as he jumps to the side.

Tokyama shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rostam as he avoids it easily.

Rostam has hold of Tokyama's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Tokyama tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Rostam cranks the arm and Tokyama screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Tokyama, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Sergej Rostam!
