PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Barden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie Kerabatsos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nathan Barden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donnie Kerabatsos!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kerabatsos doesn't manage to clinch there - Barden circles away.

Barden closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kerabatsos is looking to regain half guard here but Barden keeps moving and retains side control.
Kerabatsos is not content to let Barden control the position.

Barden tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Barden has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Barden working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kerabatsos gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Kerabatsos is trying to get back to full guard.

Kerabatsos is pressing down on Barden's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Barden wants to pass the guard but Kerabatsos is keeping the position.

Kerabatsos pushes Barden off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kerabatsos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barden's waist but Barden gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kerabatsos off to one side.
Kerabatsos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Barden paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Barden shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kerabatsos counters with a shoot takedown. Barden fights it but they end up in guard.

Kerabatsos is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Barden throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Barden is breathing heavily.
Barden keeping moving, preventing Kerabatsos from controlling successfully.

Barden had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kerabatsos is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Barden Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kerabatsos's back instead.
Kerabatsos breaks Barden's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kerabatsos trying to control but Barden is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kerabatsos drops back looking for a leg! Barden is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Barden manages to kick Kerabatsos off! Kerabatsos jumps back into Barden's guard.

Kerabatsos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kerabatsos trying to control the position from guard on top but Barden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Barden looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kerabatsos is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kerabatsos wants to clinch up but Barden keeps it at a distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Barden blocks a head kick by Kerabatsos.
Kerabatsos tries to clinch there but Barden circles away.
Barden gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Kerabatsos to counter with a crisp jab.
Barden takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Kerabatsos doesn't manage to clinch there - Barden circles away.

Kerabatsos darts in and clinches Barden up against the cage.
Kerabatsos can't break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donnie Kerabatsos dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Barden clinches with his opponent.
Kerabatsos wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kerabatsos wants to break free but Barden has control.
Kerabatsos is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Barden pulls guard successfully.
Kerabatsos with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kerabatsos is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Barden tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barden keeping moving, preventing Kerabatsos from controlling successfully.
Kerabatsos is stalling in the full guard.
Kerabatsos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barden swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Barden manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kerabatsos manages to get himself to full guard.
Kerabatsos has his hands on Barden's head, controlling the position.
Barden tries to free his leg and advance position but Kerabatsos is retaining full guard.
Kerabatsos keeping moving, preventing Barden from controlling successfully.
Kerabatsos looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barden is one step ahead there.

Kerabatsos has his foot on Barden's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barden works his way back into a safe position though.

Kerabatsos is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Barden drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kerabatsos manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barden has Kerabatsos in his guard.

Kerabatsos drops back looking for a leg! Barden is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Barden manages to kick Kerabatsos off! Kerabatsos jumps back into Barden's guard.

Barden looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Barden has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kerabatsos is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Barden.

Kerabatsos tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Barden wants to get back to his feet but Kerabatsos drags him back down.

Kerabatsos tries to move to mount but Barden blocks the move with his legs.
Barden tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kerabatsos wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Barden manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kerabatsos's best efforts.
Barden is refusing to be controlled, as Kerabatsos sits in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kerabatsos misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donnie Kerabatsos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Barden doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kerabatsos counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kerabatsos.
Kerabatsos tries to pull guard but Barden holds him up against the cage and eventually Kerabatsos drops back down to his feet.
Kerabatsos controlling the action here for a moment.
Kerabatsos wants to break free but Barden has control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kerabatsos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kerabatsos has taken the fight to the clinch.

Barden wants a takedown.
Barden keeps control of Kerabatsos as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Barden's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Kerabatsos lands with a light punch inside.
Barden prevents a takedown attempt there.

Kerabatsos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Barden will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Barden. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kerabatsos stuns Barden with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Kerabatsos looks to clinch

and Barden counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Barden is posturing up here but Kerabatsos has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Barden tries to roll out but it's too tight and Barden has to tap! Slick submission there by Kerabatsos!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Donnie Kerabatsos!
