3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kupar Terkey! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Terkey doesn't succeed with the takedown and Phuthong counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Phuthong can't get the takedown.

We've been hearing good reports from Phuthong's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Phuthong wants to control but Terkey is keeping him busy. Phuthong swings around for an armbar but Terkey sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Phuthong's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Terkey decides to stand up. Terkey tries to close the distance and clinch but Phuthong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Terkey drives through and clinches with Phuthong against the cage.
Terkey has picked Phuthong up - he's going for a ride! Terkey dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Phuthong works his way to full guard. Good work. Phuthong is looking for a triangle but Terkey pushes his legs off easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Terkey decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Phuthong, up you get! Terkey shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Phuthong pinned against the cage. Phuthong gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Terkey shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Phuthong napping and manages to drive through into side control!

It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Phuthong manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
