Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Calvin Wagstaff! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Urie Fedotov! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wagstaff shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Fedotov should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Wagstaff has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fedotov is proving hard to escape from. Fedotov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wagstaff's guard. Wagstaff keeping moving, preventing Fedotov from controlling successfully. Wagstaff is trying to keep Fedotov in close.
Wagstaff keeping full guard, as Fedotov tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fedotov is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Wagstaff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Wagstaff is trying to control the position but Fedotov postures up.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Fedotov gets caught flat footed, as Wagstaff shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wagstaff keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Fedotov's head. Fedotov had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Wagstaff is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Fedotov Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Wagstaff's back instead. Fedotov has the hooks in. Wagstaff is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Wagstaff is working hard here to advance position. Wagstaff defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Wagstaff wants to escape the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Fedotov is persistently looking for the submission but Wagstaff is defending it well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Wagstaff is trying to defend against the choke here but Fedotov has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Fedotov Tightens the hold and Wagstaff taps out furiously! Fedotov displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
