Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fred Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simmons comes to the cage accompanied by Dog Wild Heaven. Jim Murphy has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fred Simmons! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Murphy! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simmons misses with a takedown and Murphy counters with a straight right hand. Murphy fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Simmons looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Murphy throws out a loose jab but Simmons uses good head movement to avoid it. Simmons changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Murphy tries to avoid it but Simmons manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Murphy to the ground. Murphy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Simmons shoots and misses and Murphy makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Simmons. That's going to take a lot out of him. Simmons slips under a jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Simmons ducks under a wild hook from Murphy. Murphy looks to land a left hand but Simmons moved out of range nicely.

Simmons tries to score a power double leg takedown but Murphy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Simmons somewhat. Simmons has his takedown stuffed and Simmons takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Simmons closes the distance and clinches up with Murphy, looking for a takedown. Simmons pushes Murphy against the cage but Murphy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Simmons definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Murphy connects with a good right hand that stumbles Simmons. Simmons circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Murphy has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Simmons is landing a low percentage of strikes. Simmons shoots in for a takedown but Murphy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Simmons takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. No luck with that takedown attempt from Simmons. Simmons takes one to the chin there. Simmons doesn't succeed with the takedown and Murphy counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Murphy lands a nice looking body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Simmons gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Murphy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simmons tries for a takedown but Murphy circles away easily enabling Murphy to counter with a crisp jab. Simmons takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Simmons keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Murphy. Murphy might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Simmons tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Murphy defends well and Simmons ends up having to push Murphy into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Murphy fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Simmons looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Murphy gets caught napping as Simmons dives in and scores a takedown. Murphy manages to retain guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Simmons throws a big elbow that misses. Simmons throws a big right hand that misses. Murphy is pulling down on Simmons's head. It's preventing any offense from Simmons, at least for the moment. Simmons throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Murphy works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Murphy looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Murphy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Simmons has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Murphy is trying to keep Simmons in close.
Simmons tries to free his leg and advance position but Murphy is retaining full guard. Simmons drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Murphy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Simmons has Murphy in his guard.

Simmons escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Murphy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Simmons is fighting to maintain full guard but Murphy has managed to sneak the leg through. Murphy controlling the action here. Simmons looking for submissions off his back. Simmons looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Murphy is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Murphy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Murphy is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Simmons with a body shot. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Simmons fails with a takedown attempt. Murphy lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Simmons moves away from the strike by Murphy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Simmons bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Simmons looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Murphy moves into range and connects with a jab. A cross from Murphy lands. Simmons uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Murphy. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Murphy!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Murphy misses with a left hand and Simmons counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Murphy! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Murphy tries to get back to half guard but can't. You can see the frustration on Murphy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Fred Simmons overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Fred Simmons has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Simmons goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Murphy rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Simmons's guard! Nice work there by Murphy! Simmons is looking for a triangle but Murphy pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight! Jim Murphy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Murphy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
