Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franks gets a double leg takedown into Gomez's guard.

Gomez has his foot on Franks's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Franks works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Franks connects with a nice short shot to Gomez's temple.

Franks's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Gomez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Franks has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Franks takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Gomez throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Gomez makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gomez.

Franks uses his free foot to push down on Gomez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gomez.
Franks gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Franks shoots in and bounces Gomez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Franks tries to stand but Gomez is controlling from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Franks wants to control from the top but Gomez keeps moving.

Well Franks has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
