Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dave Holiday! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Lahey! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lahey moves in looking to clinch but Holiday pushes him off. Holiday closes the distance and clinches up with Lahey, looking for a takedown. Holiday pushes Lahey against the cage but Lahey circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Lahey punishes Holiday's body with a nice straight punch. A swing and a miss from Lahey. Holiday half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Holiday definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Holiday avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lahey misses with a left hand and Holiday counters with a body kick that stops Lahey in his tracks momentarily. Holiday gets cracked there but stands up to it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Holiday throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Holiday looking to score a takedown here. Lahey is defending well but Holiday drives through and ends up in Lahey's guard. Holiday looking to sit in guard and control but Lahey gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Lahey being controlled here momentarily. Lahey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lahey preventing the sweep. Lahey wanted to stand there but Holiday had control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Holiday is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Holiday wants to take a breather but Lahey is having none of it. Lahey is trying to get back to full guard. Holiday seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Lahey is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Dave Holiday! After winning the bout, Dave Holiday thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. Jim Lahey spoke after the fight, saying 'Jim Lahey for supervisor of the year'.
