PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trent Punchy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Wuzz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Punchy comes into the arena with Trent From Punchy blaring out of the sound system. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trent Punchy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Wuzz!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wuzz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Punchy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Punchy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Wuzz.
Wuzz has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Punchy is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Punchy works Wuzz's body with a nice hook.
Wuzz moves away from the strike by Punchy.
Punchy leaves Wuzz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Punchy throws a quick counter kick to the body but Wuzz avoids it.
Wuzz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Punchy connects with a body shot.
Punchy stuffs the takedown attempt from Wuzz. Wuzz gets slowly back to his feet.
Trent Punchy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Wuzz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wuzz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Punchy misses the shot to the body.
Punchy circles away from the clinch attempt
and Punchy counters with a nice uppercut.
Trent Punchy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Wuzz shoots in and drives through. Punchy sprawls well.

Wuzz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Punchy, pushing him back against the cage.

Wuzz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Punchy to keep the fight standing.
Wuzz tries for a takedown but Punchy manages to get underhooks.
Punchy lands with a left to the head.

Punchy stops a takedown attempt from Wuzz.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wuzz tries a knee to the head but Punchy blocks it.
Wuzz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Punchy pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Punchy cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Wuzz fails to land the takedown.
David Wuzz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wuzz doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Punchy counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Wuzz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Punchy's guard.
Punchy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wuzz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Punchy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wuzz's guard.
Wuzz is pressing down on Punchy's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Punchy lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Wuzz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Punchy is one step ahead there.

Wuzz working for a triangle but Punchy defends it easily.
We've been hearing that Punchy has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Punchy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wuzz keeps working.
Wuzz is looking to get back to full guard here but Punchy has managed to pass to side control instead.

Wuzz tries to buck Punchy off but Punchy is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trent Punchy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Wuzz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Punchy.
Punchy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wuzz can do to turn this around?

Wuzz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Punchy controls the pace.

Wuzz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Punchy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wuzz has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Punchy escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Punchy!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

and Punchy counters with a nice uppercut.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wuzz gets a takedown into half guard.

Wuzz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Punchy has managed to free his arm - good work.
Punchy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Punchy.

Wuzz has gone for a leg lock! Punchy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wuzz's guard.
David Wuzz has got the better of the ground game so far.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Wuzz takes the fight into the clinch.
Punchy misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A head punch on the inside from Punchy fails to land.
Wuzz fails to pull guard.
Wuzz is trying to drag Punchy to the mat but Punchy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Punchy is pressed up against the cage. Wuzz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Punchy down to the mat. Punchy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Trent Punchy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Wuzz.
Punchy throws a hook but Wuzz avoids it easily.
Wuzz feints the counter takedown.

Wuzz shoots in for a double leg but Punchy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

A quick step to the side and Punchy tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
