Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Klauss Rengar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Xander Graves! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Graves gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Graves is on top in guard.
Rengar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Graves defends well. Graves stands and steps away. Rengar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rengar closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Graves did well to prevent Rengar getting side control. Graves is pressing down on Rengar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Graves is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Graves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rengar manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Graves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rengar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Graves can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rengar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Graves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Graves slips nicely into half guard. Rengar wants to get back to full guard. Graves seems to be working for a kimura but Rengar defends the submission attempt. Graves has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Rengar defend it? Graves steps over the head and cranks it - Rengar is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Graves!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Xander Graves! Our winner, Xander Graves, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
