Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rex Eaton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Phillips! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eaton lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Phillips backs up against the cage.
Phillips shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Eaton napping and manages to drive through into side control! Phillips working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Phillips tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Phillips has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Eaton wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Phillips is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Eaton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Eaton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Phillips wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Phillips tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Phillips has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Phillips wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Eaton, who protects the arm well. Phillips working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Phillips looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Phillips tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Eaton wants to get back to his feet. Phillips advances nicely into full mount. Phillips working for a guillotine from mount but Eaton is in no mood to give up. Phillips moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Eaton has worked his arm free - good work by Eaton!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Phillips wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Eaton, who protects the arm well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Eaton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Phillips wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Phillips has hold of Eaton's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Eaton seems comfortable defending it but Phillips has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Eaton is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Eaton is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Phillips couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dan Phillips! Dan Phillips decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
