Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jim Beckett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eduardo Alvarez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jim Beckett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eduardo Alvarez! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Donald Grub and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alvarez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. A swing and a miss from Beckett. Beckett throws a hook but Alvarez blocks it. And Alvarez tries to counter it with a takedown but Beckett pushes his down on his head and steps out. A bone on bone clash there as Alvarez blocks the leg kick.
Beckett pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Beckett wants to land a leg kick but Alvarez is out of range. A head kick misses from Beckett. Beckett throws a chopping leg kick but Alvarez manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Alvarez slips a straight right by Beckett. Alvarez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Beckett connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Alvarez scrambles back to his feet. A good leg kick by Beckett. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alvarez avoids the head kick by Beckett.
Jim Beckett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Beckett tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alvarez was well out of range. Poor timing from Beckett. Alvarez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Beckett throws out the jab. Beckett looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Alvarez scores with a jab to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beckett fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Alvarez checks it well. Beckett tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Alvarez is able to avoid easily. Alvarez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Beckett looks to score with a jab to the body but Alvarez is just out of range. Beckett misses with a low kick. Beckett scores with a nice head shot. A nice inside leg kick there by Beckett. That's going to slow Alvarez down. Beckett shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Beckett misses with a low kick. Alvarez has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Beckett misses with a straight right. A head kick misses from Beckett. An inside leg kick lands from Beckett.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarez stuns Beckett with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Beckett pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Beckett swings for the body but Alvarez moves out of range.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Alvarez, as that shot connected.
Beckett tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Alvarez feints the counter takedown. Beckett uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. This has been an exciting period of action! Beckett throws a leg kick and Alvarez counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Beckett! Alvarez working the ground and pound. Beckett can't do much from the bottom here. Beckett is looking to regain half guard here but Alvarez keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Beckett is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Alvarez is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Beckett blocking the ground and pound. Alvarez throwing strikes here but Beckett is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Beckett tries to hold on but Alvarez pushes him away. Alvarez throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Beckett because Alvarez loaded up on that one. Alvarez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Beckett looks a forlorn figure.

Beckett is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Alvarez landing punches. Alvarez avoids the attempt from Beckett to control. Alvarez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. This has been an exciting period of action! Beckett takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Beckett is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Eduardo Alvarez will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Nice defenses there by Beckett. Alvarez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Beckett swivels and escapes. Beckett misses with a low kick. Beckett connects with a leg kick. Alvarez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Beckett misses with a looping left. Alvarez slips under a jab. Beckett takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Beckett fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alvarez on the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Beckett scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Beckett turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Alvarez looks to score with a jab to the body but Beckett is just out of range. A quick step to the side and Beckett tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Alvarez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Alvarez ducks under a wild hook from Beckett. And Alvarez tries to counter it with a takedown but Beckett pushes his down on his head and steps out. Alvarez avoids the head kick by Beckett.

Alvarez misses with a takedown attempt - Beckett sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Jim Beckett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eduardo Alvarez. Beckett misses with a low kick. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alvarez. Alvarez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Beckett. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Beckett throws a low kick but Alvarez avoids it. Alvarez lands with a straight right. Beckett didn't see that one coming. Alvarez throws a hook to the side of Beckett's head but Beckett sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. That's three minutes gone in the round. Alvarez blocks a jab. Beckett lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Jim Beckett is winning the standup battle so far. Beckett throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Alvarez tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Beckett walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Alvarez checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. And Alvarez tries to counter it with a takedown but Beckett pushes his down on his head and steps out. Beckett throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Alvarez checks the leg kick. Beckett throws a right hand that Alvarez ducks under and follows up with a left that Alvarez also avoids with ease. Beckett just misses with a punch to the body.

Jim Beckett dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Beckett fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Alvarez. Alvarez has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Alvarez is defended easily by Beckett. Beckett throws a big counter combination but Alvarez scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Beckett throws a leg kick which misses Alvarez's front leg but catches the back leg as Alvarez tries to avoid it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alvarez's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. An inside leg kick from Beckett misses. Alvarez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Beckett defends it well. Alvarez has a takedown stuffed. Alvarez misses with a wild body shot. Beckett is looking to land body kicks. Beckett throws a leg kick but Alvarez sees it coming and moves out of range. Alvarez tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Alvarez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Beckett finds it's way round the side to connect with Alvarez's head. Beckett throws a low kick but Alvarez moves out of range easily. Beckett sprawls well. Jim Beckett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eduardo Alvarez. Beckett does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Alvarez with the counter takedown but Beckett avoids it easily. Beckett uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alvarez.
A jab from Beckett finds it's way through Alvarez's defenses. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Beckett sprawls well. Beckett wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvarez gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alvarez fails to land the takedown. Alvarez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Beckett to the mat! Beckett manages to get full guard. Beckett controls Alvarez momentarily but Alvarez frees himself. Alvarez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Beckett looking to control but Alvarez passes into half guard.
Alvarez is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Beckett as he works his way to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Beckett is pulling down on Alvarez's head. It's preventing any offense from Alvarez, at least for the moment. Alvarez pushing down on Beckett's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Alvarez throwing shots but Beckett is blocking nicely. Alvarez trying to mount his opponent but Beckett defends it.
And that's the end of the fight! Jim Beckett showed his dominance in that final round. I think Beckett has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
