Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josip Pavic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josip Pavic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Simon Phoenix!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pavic throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Phoenix counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Josip Pavic has been cut.
Phoenix ducks under a wild hook from Pavic.
Phoenix tries to close the distance and clinch but Pavic swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pavic is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Phoenix tries to clinch up but Pavic circles away and keeps his distance.
A punch lands to the side of Phoenix 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Pavic throws a poor cross that misses
and Phoenix cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
No joy there for Pavic, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Phoenix with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Pavic to score with a decent uppercut.

Phoenix darts in and clinches Pavic up against the cage.
Pavic blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Phoenix misses with a hook from the clinch.
I was talking to Pavic's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Phoenix misses with a punch to the body.
Pavic blocking some punches.
Phoenix lands with a short punch from the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A body shot lands from Phoenix.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Phoenix taking a breather.
Phoenix misses with a body punch.
Phoenix is pushing Pavic up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Phoenix is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Pavic is defending well for now.

Phoenix is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pavic is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Phoenix to the mat. Phoenix regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Pavic works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Phoenix really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pavic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Phoenix wants to sweep but Pavic has passed to side control!

Pavic is trying to get an arm triangle but Phoenix is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Phoenix tries to bench press Pavic off him but Pavic keeps the position.

Pavic working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Phoenix avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Pavic.
Pavic lands some shots froms side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pavic throws an elbow but Phoenix slips to the side and avoids it well.
Pavic working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Pavic landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Pavic is looking to take a break and control but Phoenix is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pavic in side control, throwing shots but Phoenix defends.
Pavic slows the pace down.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Phoenix can do anything to dispel that myth.
Phoenix wants to control but Pavic postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Phoenix tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pavic wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Phoenix parries the strikes from Pavic easily there. Pavic is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Phoenix to escape.

Pavic decides to take the fight back to the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Phoenix looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Phoenix slips under a jab.
Phoenix throws a counter combo.
A big left from Pavic misses.
Phoenix tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pavic manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Phoenix leaves Pavic with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pavic works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Phoenix staying out of range there.
Pavic throws a series of strikes that have Phoenix backpedaling.
Some wild striking there from Pavic.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pavic swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Phoenix.
A swing and a miss from Pavic.
A big right from Pavic misses.
It seemed like Phoenix was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Pavic shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A left lands for Phoenix.
Phoenix wants to clinch.
Pavic is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Phoenix on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice defenses there by Phoenix.
Phoenix is looking to clinch.
Josip Pavic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Phoenix misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Pavic counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Phoenix has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Josip Pavic!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Josip Pavic waved his t-shirt featuring Voodoo Nutrition's logo in front of the cameras.
