PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donnie Buchanan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Resnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Resnar has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donnie Buchanan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brock Resnar!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ben Hemmingworth and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Resnar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Buchanan is fending him off so far but Resnar persists. Nope, Buchanan circles away and we're back to standing.
Resnar looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Buchanan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Resnar manages to get himself to full guard.

Buchanan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Buchanan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Resnar loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Resnar looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Resnar is looking to work some ground and pound but Buchanan has wrist control.
Buchanan wants to stand up but Resnar is controlling him.
Resnar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Buchanan pulls Resnar in close to his closed guard and prevents Resnar from doing any damage or advancing position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Buchanan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Resnar looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Buchanan gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Buchanan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Buchanan is trying to trip Resnar. He has hold of a leg but Resnar is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Buchanan persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Resnar wants to stand and escape but Buchanan is having none of it.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Resnar shoots for a takedown but Buchanan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Buchanan cracks a nice hook into Resnar's ribs.

Buchanan pushes Resnar up against the cage in a clinch.
Resnar looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Buchanan's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Buchanan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Resnar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Resnar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Buchanan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Resnar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Resnar has managed to clinch.

Resnar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Buchanan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Buchanan scores with a one two! Resnar had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Buchanan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Buchanan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Resnar can do to turn this around?

Resnar wants to get up but he can't break Buchanan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Resnar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Buchanan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Buchanan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Resnar on the ground.

Resnar lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Resnar stops Buchanan from getting back to his feet.
Buchanan tries to roll over but Resnar keeps him under control.
Resnar wants to stand up but Buchanan has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Buchanan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Buchanan is pressing down on Resnar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Donnie Buchanan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Resnar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Donnie Buchanan.
Well Buchanan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
