Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gilad Shalit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alfie Solomon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shalit comes into the arena with MC Sapinho - Gilad Shalit blaring out of the sound system. Alfie Solomon is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gilad Shalit! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alfie Solomon! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Darius Henderson and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shalit scores with a punch to the head. Shalit throws a body punch but Solomon moves out of range. Shalit moves out of range as Solomon strikes. Solomon ducks under a wild hook from Shalit. Shalit throws a jab but it's blocked by Solomon. Shalit thuds a left hand into Solomon's body. Solomon dodges the punch combination from Shalit.
Solomon drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Shalit defends it well. Shalit lands a head shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shalit swings away with a leg kick that misses. Solomon takes a swing at Shalit's ribcage but misses. Shalit is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Solomon slips under a jab. Solomon is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Shalit has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shalit ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Solomon moves away. Solomon throws a right and a left that Shalit avoids nicely. Solomon dives in and scores a takedown into Shalit's guard. Solomon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Shalit knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Solomon on the ground. Solomon wants to control from the top but Shalit keeps moving. Solomon looking to pass the guard. Solomon has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shalit is trying to break the clinch but Solomon is controlling him. A short right from Solomon on the inside. Solomon trying to stall but Shalit improves his position.
Come on Shalit - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Solomon's coach down at Fight Training Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Solomon's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Shalit breaks from the clinch.
Shalit jabs Solomon to the body, keeping him at a distance. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Solomon throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Solomon drives through with a takedown into guard. Solomon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Shalit's guard. Solomon thows a huge punch but Shalit dodges it nicely.
Solomon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Solomon wants to take a breather but Shalit is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Solomon tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shalit knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Solomon is looking to take a break and control but Shalit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Solomon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Solomon is looking for a kimura here.
Solomon landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Solomon is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Shalit is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alfie Solomon! Alfie Solomon is the new light heavyweight champion! Alfie Solomon decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you. The defeated Gilad Shalit had this to say: 'You know, shit happens, he was the better man tonight and I couldn't impose my gameplan. I train like a champion, fight like a champion and I lose like a champion. I'll come back stronger.'.
