PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamel Booth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JT Ridley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). JT Ridley will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamel Booth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JT Ridley!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Booth has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Ridley.

Ridley clinches.

Booth pulls guard effortlessly.
Booth is looking to stand back up but Ridley counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Booth.

Ridley is trying to work for a kimura but Booth is defending well.
Booth is trying to stand up here but Ridley is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ridley wants to free his trapped foot but Booth is holding on for dear life with his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ridley looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Booth wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Booth is looking for a sweep. Ridley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ridley is looking to take a break and control but Booth is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Booth makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Booth.
Booth wants to stand but Ridley is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ridley trying to control the position from guard on top but Booth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ridley throws an elbow that misses. Booth uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ridley's guard. Nice move by Booth!

Booth wants to stand but Ridley has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ridley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Booth seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Booth won't allow Ridley to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Booth is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ridley feints and as Booth raises his hands in defense, Ridley changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ridley trying to control but Booth is working from the bottom.
Ridley missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Booth is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ridley sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Booth's guard.

Ridley is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Booth is just riding it out for now. Ridley eventually gives up the hold.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Booth pushes Ridley off looking to stand but Ridley dives back in and keeps control.
Ridley is trying to control. Booth wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Booth is pressing down on Ridley's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Ridley wants to stand and escape but instead Booth has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Booth stands up from Ridley's guard - Booth perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ridley dives in and scores a takedown into Booth's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JT Ridley dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ridley tries to clinch up but Booth circles away and keeps his distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ridley.
Booth is pushing Ridley's head away, looking to escape. Ridley manages to hold on to the position though.
Ridley creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Booth sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Ridley wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Booth, who protects the arm well.
Booth is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ridley has just dragged him back down to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ridley is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Booth knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Booth gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Booth looks like he's trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ridley is looking to take a break and control but Booth is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Booth has one foot on Ridley's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Ridley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Booth sprawls well initially but Ridley persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Booth wants to control but Ridley is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Booth is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ridley's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ridley's back!
Ridley looking very determined here, making life difficult for Booth.
Ridley turns into Booth and is now in his guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Booth keeping moving, preventing Ridley from controlling successfully.
Booth is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Booth wants to improve his position but instead Ridley has moved into half guard.
Booth is refusing to be controlled, as Ridley sits in half guard.

Booth gets back to full guard.
Ridley trying to move into half guard but instead Booth has managed to sweep!

Booth postures up in Ridley's guard and throws a big left but Ridley blocks it.
Booth wants to stand but Ridley is controlling his posture from full guard.

Booth stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Ridley scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Booth doesn't seem bothered though.
Booth takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Jamel Booth has been cut.

Ridley gets a clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ridley as Booth tries to tie him up.

Ridley decides to pull guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ridley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Booth accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ridley is trying to control the position but Booth postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JT Ridley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Jamel Booth's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.

Ridley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ridley throws a right and a left that Booth avoids nicely.

Ridley closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Booth quickly recovers to half guard.

Ridley decides to stand up.

Booth tries to sprawl but Ridley drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Booth gets full guard.
Booth utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Booth is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ridley stops Booth from standing up.
Booth keeping moving, preventing Ridley from controlling successfully.
Booth could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ridley stands and steps away. Booth gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ridley looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Booth!
Ridley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ridley misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Ridley working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Booth striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Ridley throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Booth works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Booth has a hand on Ridley's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Ridley takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Booth is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Ridley punching from mount but Booth doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Ridley tries to control but Booth wriggling away.
Booth wants to control but Ridley is having none of it.
Ridley can't control as he wanted to and Booth manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Ridley stands up out of the half guard.

Ridley clinches up with Booth and pushes him back against the cage.
Booth is trying to pull guard but Ridley has him pressed against the cage.

Ridley breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Booth gets caught flat footed, as Ridley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ridley looking to sit in guard and control but Booth gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

JT Ridley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ridley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
