Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jussi Hempele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edu Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jussi Hempele has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jussi Hempele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edu Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Hempele.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Alvarez checks a leg kick.
Alvarez checks a low kick from Hempele.
Hempele throws a low kick but Alvarez moves out of range easily.
A swing and a miss from Alvarez.
Alvarez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hempele.
Hempele throws a quick counter kick to the body but Alvarez avoids it.
Alvarez throws a lazy right hand but Hempele sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Alvarez gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hempele.
Hempele definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Hempele throws a front kick that sends Alvarez stumbling back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarez misses with a hook.
Hempele moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

and Hempele counters with a slapping leg kick.

Hempele works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Alvarez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hempele pinned against the cage. Hempele gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jussi Hempele has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edu Alvarez.

and Alvarez counters with a shoot takedown. Hempele fights it but they end up in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hempele holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alvarez attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Hempele is looking to counter with a body kick.
Hempele throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Alvarez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hempele tried to score with a low kick but Alvarez checks it.
A punch lands to the side of Hempele 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Hempele moves out of range as Alvarez strikes.

and Alvarez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Jussi Hempele has been cut.
Alvarez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hempele defends well and Alvarez ends up having to push Hempele into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hempele was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Hempele ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alvarez moves away.
Nice defenses there by Alvarez.

Alvarez walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Hempele checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hempele throws an overhand right that lands on Alvarez's shoulder, as Alvarez tries to avoid the shot.
Alvarez is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Hempele connects with a jab.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hempele.
Alvarez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hempele moves away.
A nice leg kick lands there from Hempele.
Hempele is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alvarez can do to turn this around?
Alvarez darts in looking for a takedown but Hempele gets double underhooks and turns Alvarez into the cage.
Alvarez dives in and grabs Hempele's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hempele pushes down on Alvarez's head and hops out.

Alvarez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hempele swivels and escapes.

Alvarez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hempele circles away quickly and effectively.
Hempele displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alvarez throws out the jab.
Alvarez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hempele moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hempele tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alvarez was well out of range. Poor timing from Hempele.
Alvarez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hempele avoids it really well and circles away.
A quick step to the side and Hempele tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Alvarez's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Hempele lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Alvarez at a distance.

and Hempele connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hempele jabs Alvarez right on the nose. Alvarez blinks but takes it well.
Hempele shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Alvarez stands and throws Hempele's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Hempele's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hempele gets back to half guard.
Hempele is trying to control but Alvarez manages to pass to mount!

Alvarez is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Hempele is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Hempele flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Alvarez anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Hempele and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Alvarez slips an arm under Hempele chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Alvarez has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Alvarez is squeezing on Hempele like an anaconda would it's prey. Hempele fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Edu Alvarez!
During a confident post fight interview, Edu Alvarez thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
