PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jung Woo Park (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robby Mareck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Park comes into the arena with Psy - Gentleman M/V blaring out of the sound system. Robby Mareck is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Robby Mareck!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Park blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Park blocks an elbow strike from Mareck.
Mareck using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Park has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mareck misses with a punch to the body.
Mareck wants to stall.

Park on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Park displaying some good clinch control by pressing Mareck up against the cage.

Park gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Mareck felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Park controlling the action here.
Park seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mareck for as long as he can get away with.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Park passes into side control, despite Mareck's attempt to control the position.

Park is trying to get an arm triangle but Mareck is defending well.
Mareck tries to bench press Park off him but Park keeps the position.

Mareck is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Park is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mareck to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mareck shrugs it off.

Park controlling the position well here. Mareck rolled but Park kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Mareck covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Park has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Mareck's body.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Park gets tackled into the cage by Mareck. Mareck maintains the clinch.
Park landing knees to the body.
Park lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Park lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mareck throws a head punch that misses.
Mareck struggles to land a body shot inside as Park controls his hands.
Park dodges an elbow strike from Mareck.

Park pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Park throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Park lets loose with a powerful body kick. Mareck will feel that in the morning.
Mareck tries to clinch up.
Mareck has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Park.
Mareck takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Park avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Park.
Mareck tries to clinch up but Park circles away and keeps his distance.

Park closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Park content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Park stands up and we're back to a striking position.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mareck enables Park to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mareck manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Park decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Park explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Park has managed to clinch.
Park unloads a knee to the mid-section. Mareck lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Park successfully pulls guard.
Mareck trying to control the position from guard on top but Park is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mareck looking to sit in guard and control but Park gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Park stays in close to Mareck's body and controls the position.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Park.

Park stands and throws Mareck's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Park gets to mount! Mareck was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Park takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
More hug and hope from Park.
Mareck is in all sorts of trouble here.

Park is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Park keeps Mareck at a distance using the push kick.
Robby Mareck has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Robby Mareck seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mareck falls off balance throwing a combination
and Park makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Mareck really felt that one!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Park.
Jung Woo Park is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mareck has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Park.
Mareck takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Jung Woo Park showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Park has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
