Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Gotwalt!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gotwalt with a lazy takedown attempt
and Bates counters with a one-two to the body.
Bates displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gotwalt.
Bates changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gotwalt gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bates counters with a straight right hand.
James Bates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Gotwalt.
Bates chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Gotwalt can pounce on him.
Bates displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gotwalt.
Gotwalt gets tackled into the cage by Bates. Bates maintains the clinch.
Bates lands a takedown into guard.
Bates lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gotwalt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Gotwalt controls Bates momentarily but Bates frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Bates landing some decent shots from guard.
Bates has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gotwalt to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Bates is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gotwalt pulls down on the head and he's put Bates to sleep! This one is all over!
