Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kurtis Griffith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duncan West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kurtis Griffith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Duncan West!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Griffith gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

West tightens his grip and picks Griffith up, before dumping him to the ground. Griffith manages to land in guard.
Griffith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Griffith keeping moving, preventing West from controlling successfully.
West throws a big right hand that misses.

Griffith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but West can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West won't allow Griffith to get back to his feet.
West looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
West loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Griffith punching from the bottom - just letting West know he's still in a fight.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Griffith is trying to keep West in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Griffith wants to clinch.

West closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Griffith is not content to let West control the position.

Griffith is looking for a sweep.
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Griffith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Griffith struggling a bit here.
Griffith tries to bench press West off him but West keeps the position.

West is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Griffith has escaped the position, nice work there.
West wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffith keeps working.
West working the ground and pound.

West tries to stand but Griffith is controlling his head.
West trying to control the position but Griffith is working away.

West is trying to get an arm triangle but Griffith is defending well.
Griffith wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Griffith tries to improve position but can't.

West decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Griffith tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. West manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
West lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

West fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Griffith sprawls well initially but West persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griffith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. West is working away from the top position though.

Griffith actively working from the bottom here.
West is trying to control the action in half guard but Griffith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
West tries to stand and escape but Griffith is controlling the position.
Griffith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Griffith lands a couple of sideways elbows.
West stops Griffith from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Duncan West dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No luck for Griffith with that takedown attempt.
Duncan West seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
West wants to clinch.
Griffith attempts a counter takedown but West avoids it well and moves away.
Griffith wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West missing with a left hand there. Griffith was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

West shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. West showed some decent athleticism there.
West working over Griffith with some ground and pound. Griffith looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

West wants to stand but Griffith has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
West has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Griffith won't allow West to pass to mount.
Griffith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Griffith is looking to escape.
Griffith gets full guard.
Griffith controlling the position.
Griffith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst West is controlling him.
Griffith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
West content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

West feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
West tries to free his leg and advance position but Griffith is retaining full guard.
West must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
West stops Griffith from standing up.
West wants to pass the guard but Griffith is keeping the position.
Griffith striking off his back but it's not causing West any problems.
Griffith can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as West controls the pace.
West tries to stand but Griffith is controlling from the bottom.
Duncan West has got the better of the ground game so far.

West controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Griffith throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Griffith moves into the clinch.
Griffith swings away with an uppercut that misses.

West gets control of Griffith's arms and successfully pulls guard. West will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Griffith postures up in West's guard and throws a big left but West blocks it.
Griffith is looking to work some ground and pound but West has wrist control.
Griffith's corner is telling him to maintain position.

West working for a triangle but Griffith defends it easily.
West is breathing heavily.
Griffith is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Griffith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Griffith missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Griffith engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

West decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Duncan West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


West circles away from the clinch attempt.

Griffith drives through and clinches with West against the cage.
Griffith misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from West.
Griffith looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
West dodges an elbow strike from Griffith.

Griffith manages to break the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Griffith.
West manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
West is keen to just control but Griffith is a slippery customer.

West wants to pass to mount but Griffith is defending the position.
Griffith works his way to full guard. Good work.

West is sitting in close to Griffith's body. Griffith has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! West is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, West is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Griffith.
